MAKING a welcome return to the UK with their unique Mind Body Bowen (MBB) training workshop are Margaret Spicer and Vianne MacBeth, renowned Bowtech instructors from Australia. The training is now available in two parts which can be attended separately or both together.
Feedback to their previous visit in 2024 was exceptional. Many Bowen practitioners will remember the profound emotional experience of learning the tools for MBB and may wish to return, either to revisit Part 1 which has been updated, or the new Part 2 as a follow on.
Ranjeeta Bhatal was one of those who attended and subsequently integrated MBB into her own practice. She explained: “I had clients coming to me laying bare their innermost worries and feelings and wasn’t sure how to help them. The workshop demonstrated clearly the powerful connection between mind and body and gave me the knowledge, and most importantly the confidence, on how to use Bowen in these circumstances. I absolutely recommend others to do this course if possible.”
Therapists open to how health exists on various levels of mental, emotional, spiritual, physical and more will be curious to learn how to help their clients. This workshop material is suitable for all Bowen practitioners; indeed, many have wished they had attended this type of workshop early in their practice as it can give great insight into what is happening for their clients.
Registration / booking is now open for the two-part course in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire in February 2027. Acting as co-ordinator for their visit on behalf of Bowen Training UK is Helen Mary Perkins, herself an experienced and respected therapist and instructor.
Therapists can attend Part 1 or Part 2 separately, or both parts together. Bowen Technique students in training must have completed Module 4 as a minimum requirement.
The mind/body connection is a powerful combination for Bowen Technique when ‘listening’ to the body. It allows the client to be in a safe comfortable space using MBB techniques to respond and release stress areas, bringing about relaxation and calm to often long-term conditions.
Bowen moves are carried out carefully and with precise timing to help unlock tension areas built up in the body. These may arise from memories or the sub-conscious and may have been deeply buried or masked over the years.
Specialised session/s such as MBB are helpful when a client is not responding to the usual Bowen moves, when areas in the body may still be tense, feeling restricted or blocked. The Bowen practitioner will be guided throughout the training during the Part 1 Foundation workshop, to show how using mindfulness aspects and the ‘felt’ or interoceptive sense, Bowen can have a role in the release of post trauma stress including the enduring effects of birth, pre-natal and post-birth issues. We know that ‘every body is better with Bowen’ whether presenting with physical, emotional or mental health symptoms.
In Margaret’s own words: “As residual tensions are cleared the person can become more present, connected to their ‘authentic self’, confirmation of the truly holistic nature of this amazing modality.”
Traditional medicine and energy concepts such as Chinese meridians, chakras and the energy field will be included with their links to muscle groups, and Bowen Therapy procedures will be explored.
Part 1: Mind Body Bowen Foundation: Two days (CPD 16 hours) where the Bowen therapist will learn about the whole process as a practitioner and how to carry out an effective session. Therapists work in pairs with the support of Margaret and Vianne. Theory and understanding help to reinforce learning.
Part 2: Mind Body Bowen in Practice This two-day (CPD 16 hours) workshop provides a different emphasis around working with Bowen procedures by including holistic aspects linked to physical, emotional and mental wellbeing, moving beyond the disorders of the musculoskeletal system. The focus is on supporting and assisting the body’s somatic intelligence or ‘inner doctor’ addressing vitality – fatigue and burn out aspects – becoming ‘grounded’, ‘integrated’ or ‘embodied’ – and addressing the various body systems such as nervous, immune, reproductive and gastrointestinal, especially chronic or returning disorders often linked to prior trauma.
Says Margaret: “The emphasis throughout the course, whether Part 1 or Part 2, is on developing the practitioner’s awareness, observation and clinical reasoning while still respecting the Bowen principle of less is best and allowing the body time to respond. At the same time, developing confidence and trust in the body’s innate intelligence and its ability to communicate what it needs.”
