COMPLETION of Special Bowen Procedures (SBP-1) saw Penny Williams presented with her Module 10 advanced training certificate by instructor Nickatie Morgan (see picture).
SBP-1 covers Modules 9 and 10. Qualification requires completion of two sessions at least six months apart. Joining Penny for the class in Hereford was Sophie (pictured left) attending her first Module 9 and fellow therapist Fran (second right) who kindly came along to act as a ‘model’ for demonstration purposes.
For Penny, who has often acted as a class model herself, it was the next step in her ongoing Bowtech training, having successfully completed a beginners’ course with Nickatie in 2022 and subsequently Module 8 for revision. Since then, she has used her skills to help family and friends while working full time in education. In common with many others, her longer-term aim is to develop a professional practice in retirement. Prior to training, Penny had also been treated by Nickatie for a long-standing shoulder problem, exacerbated during Covid when travel was limited and she was unable to visit her usual Bowen therapist. When she decided to learn Bowen, it was her mother’s experience of being treated by a Bowtech practitioner than led her to Bowen Training UK, the only school which promotes the Original Bowen Technique overseen by the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia (BTAA). Modules 9-12 are only available through Bowen Training UK.
We spoke to Penny after she received her Module 10 award: “Nickatie is a skilled instructor, very supportive and generous when imparting the knowledge and expertise she has acquired over time,” she said. “Her advice and guidance on perfecting the correct position for various moves is invaluable.
“As an instinctive therapist, she is equally knowledgeable not only about the technical moves but in terms of advising on lifestyle changes to reduce the risk of problems recurring.”
Specialist Bowen Procedures are intended to help with persistent and unusual symptoms that have not fully responded to the basic Bowtech work. All qualified Bowen therapists are eligible to progress to SBP-1(advanced) once they have completed Module 8. Thereafter they can apply for SBP-2 (Masters) training.
Those who qualify with a non-Bowtech school are also required to hold membership of Bowen Association UK.
