Bowen’s Unsung Heroes: Part II

Bowen’s Unsung Heroes: Part II

by Georgi Ilchev – President Bowen Association of Bulgaria

IN THE second of a series of articles highlighting lesser-known Bowen procedures, I have selected the Coccyx-Neck procedure from advanced Bowtech SBP-1.

The procedure contains just two moves and is left as a final treat at the very end of the manual. In my view this is a wonderful procedure, however students rarely use it, if at all. The reasons may vary… possibly, as with the Thoracic procedure described in Part I of my series of articles they are related to the shortness of the procedure and the way it is described in the manual.

To perform just two moves during a session when you know a thousand others, is not the most appealing for therapists who may lack confidence in themselves and in Bowen. The previously mentioned concerns about quantity and time apply here as well.
In addition, the SBP-1 manual promotes this procedure as being very powerful; practitioners are advised to gain the client’s consent prior to commencing the procedure, preferably to have a third-party present and advised not to drive for the rest of the day.

When I was a student, my instructor taught Bowen with great passion. He always provided interesting examples from his practice and presented information about each procedure in an inspiring and compelling way. In his introductory speech about the procedures in the SBP-1 manual, he told us we would learn 12 wonderful and very powerful procedures, each like dynamite apart from the last one which he described as more like a nuclear bomb!

Assuming we none of us wish to cause alarm or distress to clients, and combined with the reasons listed above, Coccyx-Neck is now one of the least-used Bowen procedures. I believe this is a real pity as it is one of the most effective with excellent applications for various symptoms.

Editor’s note: More ‘unsung heroes’ to follow in Part III
