First aid training now available
Instructor Nickatie offers unique insight
A CERTIFICATE in first aid is essential for qualified Bowtech therapists who wish to set up in clinical practice. Here at Bowen Training UK, we are fortunate indeed that one of our team is now able to offer the necessary one-day course: Emergency First Aid in the Workplace.
As an experienced practitioner and Bowtech instructor, Nickatie Morgan is especially well qualified to teach first aid to students, given the unique setting of a complementary therapy treatment room or clinic.
As a therapist herself she has a level of understanding into the likely risks that might arise, which gives her a unique advantage over many external providers. This is a valuable extra resource not only for our students but for therapists who need to keep their certificate updated.
Nickatie, who is also Bowen Training UK secretary, qualified as a first aid trainer earlier this year to further enhance her own professional skills, building on previous experience within the health and safety sector. She told us: “As a hands-on therapy, our workplace setting is unique. While some of the risks are common to an office or warehouse environment, there may be situations such as a client becoming unwell while on the couch and having to be safely assisted to the floor.”
One of her favourite tips, easily overlooked, is for each therapist to create a ‘what3words’ address in case urgent assistance is ever required. This service is free of charge and could save vital time if an ambulance is required.
We joined Nickate for a recent first aid workshop which was fun, interactive and highly engaging. It was clear she very much enjoys teaching and no surprise that she loves seeing her students succeed. In addition to Bowen Technique, she is also a qualified Reiki instructor.
Her career in complementary therapy, however, has its roots in her love of horses. As a competitive rider, seeking treatment for a much-loved horse over 20 years ago, she discovered Equine Muscle Release Therapy (EMRT), sometimes referred to as equine Bowen. “I couldn’t believe something so simple could make such a huge difference and I wanted to learn more,” she said.
She subsequently qualified as an Equine Muscle Release therapist, which led her to the Original Bowen Technique. She holds many other professional qualifications, an inspirational role model for her students. “I love to see people achieve and we should never stop learning,” she said.
