Bowtech therapy: Release, re-set and recover
Bowen Technique is a gentle therapy that can bring about a profound effect.
Named after founder Tom Bowen, it comprises a series of subtle yet precise moves over muscle and connective tissue (fascia) to assist the body in re-setting itself to facilitate natural healing.
Initial detailed consultation enables the therapist to assess the client’s problem before treatment begins, designed to stimulate the body’s own healing ability. In this way, Bowen differs from physiotherapy and similar modalities, where physical manipulation is used to address muscle strain or relieve pain.
Another characteristic of Bowen therapy is the unique ‘pause’ feature which allows the body to respond in its own time, in between moves. The client will sometimes feel tingling or warmth in the affected area. Some therapists choose to leave the room during this brief interval.
Through case study and decades of practice, it has been shown to have a positive effect – both physical and emotional – on a variety of ailments with back, neck and shoulder problems responding particularly well. It can also assist with headache, stress, digestive problems, neurological conditions and repetitive strain injury.
This gentle non-invasive treatment is considered suitable and safe for any age from young babies to the elderly. The moves can sometimes be made through light clothing.
